The swimming pool in Roth was open to everyone all weekend, so we went there to soak in the pool and cool down for an hour or so while watching the kids triathlon which started and ended next to the pool. Seeing the 6 year olds in full trisuits absolutely mullering it (love that kids only have 2 speeds: stop and GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!) was awesome. And very cute.
Mission (apparently) accomplished, it was time for an extremely busy but painless bike check-in; the legendary Roth atmosphere was already building with the top athletes being interviewed onsite and broadcast over the loud speakers. I deflated the tyres due to the heat, then went back once more to race village for the briefing.
That done, it was time to get home, prep nutrition for the next day and have a great dinner of steak and fries... washed down with a nice German beer. In spite of the heat and nerves, I managed to sleep for 5 hours which is a pre-IM record for me. And brings us to race day…
